    Default Hitting the "REFRESH" button

    Hi All

After several years of suffering IBD ... I think that I've been cured Relocating to Qld allowed me to get out on a fairly regular basis - catch a few fish & build up immunity to the point that impoundment barra became a bit of a drag ...... Add to that some tough fishing & the prospect of continual tough fishing - I finally had a chance to hit the "Refresh button" & boy haven't I enjoyed it
As someone who has always enjoyed lurecasting in estuaries for barra , jack etc I now had the opportunity to step back a few years & get back into it .
So over the past few months , I've bypassed the barra dams & hit the estuaries around the Gladstone area & managed a few day trips down to the Gold coast chasing jacks.
Now while I do enjoy the hit of a big impoundment barra - downsizing tackle to single handed baitcasting gear , lighter rods , line & leader has certainly kept the challenge up there ...... jacks & barra over rock bars & running with currents keeps you on your toes & hasn't left me wanting either
Fishing with mates & camping out has added to the experience - with a many great moments shared around a fire or watching someone catch their first barra , jack , thready ...... or try to deal with a big angry mud crab. Then we have exploring new ground ...... vast mangrove systems where the next hot spot could be just around the corner..... Yes hitting the "refresh button" has certainly reinvigorated my fishing .

So here are a few photos from a few of the trips

Roughing it at Curtis.jpg ...... hanging out on Curtis Is - getting here was half the fun .... or EPIC

Curtis Is jack.jpg ...... A nice jack caught off a rockbar - gnarly country

Fishing the run out.jpg ...... Fishing the run out

    A healthy system.jpg ...... A healthy system - last years recruitment

salty barra.jpg ...... One of several barra landed during a purple patch

who forgot the tide chart.jpg ...... Getting the tide wrong

47cm jack.jpg ...... Gold Coast lure caught Jack

75cm Salty.jpg ...... A hard earned barra - tough conditions & fun to catch on a hard running tide

    camp alpha.jpg ..... Camp Alpha

curtis Is crabbing .... with mates.jpg ...... Crabbing with mates .... who drink XXXX GOLD
nicks first Jack.jpg ...... A deckies first jack

    Gaz's 1st salty barra.jpg ...... A mates first salty barra - C&R

I have no doubt that I will return to the impoundments but I have to say , right now - I'm in no hurry

A seachange Chris or just a pit stop. You're still catching quality fish, enjoying the enviroment albeit slightly different all while resting the sword arm.It does pay to watch the tides though, they can catch you out. You'll have to put the Bay and the Sandy Straits on your agenda
