    Default Quick fish after tea

    G'day all,

Went out after tea for a quick fish to chase some more grunter. The fish were there but the bites were really timid tonight.

I first dropped sinker size, then hook size and then decided to lose the sinker altogether. This move paid off with the very first unweighted cast attracting a nice 52cm model, which should be great on the BBQ for tea tomorrow night.

I decided to have one more quick cast before leaving and this time it was absolutely monstered by something up in the shallows. I first thought I had a shark on but after a sizzling first run I managed to get him back into the shallows and caught a glimpse of something more silver, more then likely a decent thready. He powered off again but this run lacked the energy of the first and I managed to turn him. Unfortnately, he then found a bit of broken rock and after about a 15 second stand off, the braid finally gave. In hindsight, maybe I should have freespooled him and hoped that he swam out into the clear. Ah well, next time......

    Cheers,
    Roo.

Nice grunter. Love that unweighted fishing. Drifting, drifting, whack!
Now, I'm not saying we should invoke capital punishment for Stupidity, but how about we just take all the warning labels off everything and let nature sort itself out?

Thanks guys. Went back out after tea last night but didn't manage any decent sized grunter, although I managed to pick up a couple of lizards instead. Crumbed flathead for tea tonight. A thumping big croc dragged itself right up onto the bank further down from where I was fishing to show who was boss round here.

    Cheers,
    Roo.

Yep, and its not only the crocs that ya have to watch out for. The photo doesn't really show the size of that shark. Was great fun on a little spin stick! Also caught this little fella. He had a different skin colour, eye colour and mouth shape to most barra. Thought it might be a sand bass instead???

    Cheers,
    Roo.

Didn't take a photo of the croc. There are a few problem crocs hanging about town at the moment though. Been a few warnings in the local paper & shops lately.

I thought it might be but I've never seen one before, so not 100%.

Yeah that's a Sand Bass. Caught one on a bait jig off the jetty at Hervey Bay and another up at Mackay on a Cherry Blood when I was trying for my first wild Barra on lure.
