mate, the southerner prob has a differant way, I put em to sleep in the slurry, then bring the big pot of sea water to boil, cook between 20 and 25 minutes depending on how many crabs in the pot and how full, plunge in a sea water ice slurry, then peel from the point of the flap on the under side, taking off the shell.
Rinse off the gunk in the slurry, break in 1/2 or 1/4 as you like, happy days

Mate i always steam my crabs heaps easier and cleaner too,just kill your crabs clean them by removing the carapace take out all the gills and gunk,halve them and pop em into a large pot with about 30mm of boiling water in it,cook for about 15mins...too easy! that way your not waiting for the water to come back on the boil.

Yeah they still taste salty once you try steaming them you will never boil them again.Its amazing how many cleaned half crabs can fit into a normal pot aswell,
